5 Years Old Child Got Rid of Empyema thoracis
5yrs female child admitted in paediatric ward with diagnosis of Lt Empyema thoracis after that child was put on IV antibiotics, ICD was inserted and chest physiotherapy started. Even after aggressive treatments for more than 3 weeks Lt Lung did not expand. CT chest was suggestive of Collapsed Lt lung, Pleural thickening & organized collection; for that Lt Thoracotomy and decortications was planned. Parents were counseled about the surgical procedure and its complications also about rarity of surgery in children, need of post op ventilation and cost effectiveness in this sharda institute. Surgery was done successfully and uneventfully. This uncommon Surgery was done in this child by mini thoracotomy incision; without major blood loss, rib resection, and lung injury with Cost effectiveness (1/4th of the cost compared with any corporate hospitals) in Sharda Hospital.
